Scarborough
Scarborough is renowned as Britain's first resort. There are two beaches; South Bay with the Spa, harbour and amusement arcades and the tranquil North Bay. The bays are connected by Marine Drive; ideal for a drive or walk, and dominated by the medieval twelfth century Scarborough castle.
The Spa Complex of theatres provides live entertainment of many varieties and during the summer hosts the Scarborough Spa Orchestra concerts, the 98th season starts on the 30th May 2010. Scarborough is the only remaining seaside resort in the country with a professional orchestra. There is a film festival, an annual Jazz Festival, 24th - 26th September 2010, and the 13th annual Dance Festival takes place this year from the 9th - 14th November 2010
The Futurist Theatre on Foreshore Road hosts varied entertainment throughout the year. From the latest movies to live shows; major stars for one off concerts, full staged weekly musicals, ballets and summer shows. Some of the performances to look forward to in 2010 include; Abba Mania in June, Ken Dodd and One Night of Queen in August, and Jason Manford in November
The Stephen Joseph Theatre with its famous theatre in the round offers a wealth of entertainment throughout the year.
The television programme The Royal was filmed in Scarborough and district, many of our visitors enjoy walking along the Esplanade to see the South Bay clock tower as featured in the show. Just a few miles away at Pickering visitors can board a North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train and travel to Heartbeat country.
The Forestry Commission Great Yorkshire Forest of Dalby is a great day out in every season. There is lovely drive through the forest with plenty of places to stop and take a walk. Dalby Forest hosts two annual concerts in June as part of The Forestry Commissions live annual music series, this year Keane are performing on the 25th and Simply Red on the 26th.
