Scarborough
Scarborough is renowned as Britain's oldest resort. There are two beaches; South Bay with the Spa, harbour and amusement arcades and the tranquil North Bay. The bays are connected by Marine Drive; ideal for a drive or walk, and dominated by the medieval Scarborough castle.
The Spa Complex, Scarborough provides live entertainment of many varieties and during the summer hosts the Scarborough Spa Orchestra concerts. Barbara Dickson performs live in concert in April 2008 There is a film festival, an annual Jazz Festival, 26th - 28th September 2008, and the Dance Festival from the 11th - 16th November 2008
The Futurist theatre hosts live shows throughout the year. Some of the performances to look forward to in 2008 include Godspell in March, Dave Spikey in May and David Essex also in May, An Audience with Colin Fry in June and Joe Longthorne in August. Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat will be performed in December.
The Stephen Joseph Theatre with its famous theatre in the round is the home of Alan Ayckbourn, and offers a wealth of entertainment throughout the year. A triology of plays this summer are entitled The Things That Go Bump season.
The Yorkshire County Cricket Club will be playing at the North Marine Road ground this year for a four match Scarborough Festival fortnight, starting with a NatWest Pro 40 match on Monday the 25th of August.
The television programme The Royal is filmed in Scarborough and district, many of our visitors enjoy walking along the Esplanade to see the South Bay clock tower as featured in the show. Just a few miles away at Pickering visitors can board a North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train and travel to Heartbeat country.
The Forestry Commission Great Yorkshire Forest of Dalby is a great day out in every season. There is lovely drive through the forest with plenty of places to stop and take a walk.
